As of 23 May 2026, South Africa’s Phase 2 lighting regulations came into effect, introducing a higher minimum requirement for energy efficiency. General Service Lamps (GSLs) must now achieve at least 105 lumens per watt (lm/W),  marking a significant step up from the previous Phase 1 standard of 90 lm/W. This change reflects a broader move toward more energy-efficient, environmentally responsible lighting solutions.
